PRIVATE DIRECTOR'S SCREENING OF THE MOVIE 'CUT, POISON, BURN'
The eye opening and heartbreaking documentary, Cut Poison Burn, places conventional cancer treatment and medical treatment freedom under the microscope.Producers Louis Cimino and Wayne Chesler in collaboration with an Academy-award winning team at Nehst Media, release their latest endeavor with a national media tour that includes New York City.
An exclusive screening for Hispanic media outlets, bloggers and Latino influencers and celebrities will be hosted in New York with the attendance of the director, producers and Donna Navarro, whose family story is featured in the film as they were persecuted by the U.S. government for wanting to use alternative therapies for treating her son Thomas, who died of brain cancer in 2001.
THE BACK STORY...
It’s the tragic story of Jim and Donna Navarro (both military veterans, with Jim serving 23 years in the Marines and Donna with 4 years in the Army in emergency medicine), whose son, Thomas, was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1999. Afraid of diminishing the quality of their son’s life through conventional treatments of radiation and chemotherapy, Jim and Donna elected to first seek alternative treatments for Thomas. After diligent research, they were led to Dr. Stanaslaw Burzynski in Houston, Texas, who is the pioneer of a new treatment therapy program using Antineoplastins, which have shown tremendous results with no ill side effects. As a result of the decision to forego the conventional treatments and seek treatment with Dr. Burzynski, child protective services was called out for medical neglect and child endangerment. Apparently, it is against the law to deny conventional treatments for your child.
The Navarro’s went to Houston, TX and lived out of a hotel for 6 months while traveling back and forth to Mexico for other alternative treatments. This was a fight for their son’s life while, at the same time, they were fighting against the same country they risked their lives to protect. They took the fight to Capital Hill to introduce a Bill called, "The Thomas Navarro Patient Rights Act", HR 3677. Introduced by Congressman Dan Burton (R-IN) in Feb. 2000, the Bill never made it out of committee.
Exhausting all their options (and life savings), Thomas went recurrent and had brain surgery in New York, where the Navarro’s allowed conventional chemotherapy to be administered. The results were not what they had hoped. The chemotherapy developed a new cancer called lyptomeningelsarcoma (50 tumors throughout his brain and spine) and Thomas was given 2 weeks to live. Then and only then were the Navarro’s allowed to use the Antineoplastins therapy performed by Dr. Burzynski. With a 2-week death sentence in front of him, Thomas lived for 7 more months with the Burzynski therapy working, but he eventually succumbed to respiratory failure due to the lingering toxicity of conventional treatments. Thomas passed away Nov. 19, 2001.
This experience has shown the Navarro’s that there needs to be MASSIVE changes and reforms in legislation in the FDA. No government agency should have the right to choose what medical therapy you should have to treat a disease. Being that Jim and Donna served in the military to protect our rights and freedoms but did not have the right to choose the modality of treatment for their son was a slap in their face and a scar on our country’s freedoms and democracy.
Today, the Navarro’s are helping the Canary party (www.canaryparty.org), who are similar to the Tea party, but stand for medical freedoms and free access to the truth about food, medicine and water. With the Navarro’s support, Congressman Dan Burton is introducing a new Bill called "Access to Medical Freedom Act", HR 2637 in the 112th congress. This is about human rights; the right to live and right to choose. When a child undergoes conventional therapy, their future has been rewritten because of the severe side effects of chemotherapy and radiation. Where is the quality of life here? Where is the pursuit of happiness? Unfortunately, all signs point to medical freedoms that have been taken away by the debilitating monopoly of the pharmaceutical companies and the FDA.
One thing is for sure – Jim Navarro’s military background means this fight isn’t over by a long shot. A documentary has been filmed and recently released, titled “Cut, Poison, Burn,” which shines a spotlight on this terrible tragedy, the challenges of a monopolized pharmaceutical system that is against alternative treatments and the heart-wrenching story of Jim and Donna.
The question is simple: Isn't subjecting your child to very invasive procedures such as chemotherapy and radiation already abuse to begin with? At what cost to the child is conventional medicine proud to say there is no more cancer? One thing is for certain, the Federal Government should not have a say when it comes to making this horrendous decision.
